The missing piece for better success in teaching...
Just may be…
…..a horse!
Horses in Therapy Adding a horse to the psychotherapy equation may be the missing piece you have been looking for. In recent years horses have become more involved in therapy than ever before. The benefits of work ethic, responsibility, assertiveness, communication, and healthy relationships have long been recognized. Horses naturally provide these benefits and can help us generate remarkable insights into our life. As a result, the use of horses in the therapeutic field is growing, including the emerging specialty of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy · *Challenges clients in a non-threatening manner · *Rapidly breaks down defense barriers · *Provides immediate cause and effect situations · *Captivates and holds attention · *Promotes change from dysfunctional patterns to successful ones · *Insights and lessons learned through EAP sessions are applicable and transferable to other life settings.
Q&A
What kind of mental health and development issues can EAP help with? Behavioral issues, attention deficit disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, abuse issues, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and communication needs.
Who can benefit from EAP? EAP is a powerful and effective therapeutic approach that can have an incredible impact on individuals, youth, couples, families, and groups. The focus of EAP involves setting up activities involving the horses which will require the client or group to apply certain skills. Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem solving, leadership, taking responsibility, team work, relationships, confidence and attitude are several examples of the life skills developed and utilized through EAP.
Who is facilitating EAP? EAP is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional. Because of its intensity and effectiveness, it is considered a short-term or “brief” approach. We will work with the Mental Health Professionals from your school, hospital or facility.
Is horseback riding part of EAP? The focus of EAP is not riding or horsemanship. In fact, 90% of EAP takes place purely on the ground.
How long are EAP sessions? Each client or group will be assessed on an individual basis. Individual sessions are one hour long. In general the duration of the process is 8-12 weeks.
What is the cost for an EAP session? The cost is based on individual circumstances. The mental health professional may be covered by your insurance or otherwise will bill you directly. The equine facilitator fee is $60 per individual session. Group fees available. (Travel expenses apply if we come to your facility.)
